BISAC Category code WIN for Erotic Romance
Passionate Ink submitted a request to the Book Industry Study Group who creates all of the BISAC codes for books. We asked that they include Erotic Romance into their codes. If you’ve ever published a true erotic romance, you know that they get put into categories that don’t exactly describe what it is. Erotica and Erotic Romance are NOT the same thing. We compiled a list of codes to submit to BISG in the hopes that they would add them to their catalogue. Approval only happens once at the end of each year and we were fortunate enough that we were able to submit in August and only have a short time to wait for the results.
We submitted FICTION / ROMANCE/ EROTIC as the starting point and from there we submitted sub-genres of that, similar to what you already see within the romance genre. Ex. FICTION / ROMANCE / FIREFIGHTERS.
I’m happy to announce that BISG added the category code FIC027010 FICTION / Romance / Erotic
This is a BIG win for writers of Erotic Fiction, and especially erotic romance. We support all writers and are proud to be the organization that erotic fiction authors can call upon in this ever-changing industry!
While they are taking baby steps by only adding one of the thirty codes we requested, we have high hopes that they will continue to add more in the coming years.
